As Instructed

‘The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them’ ~ Matthew 21:6

How would you respond if God asked you to do something that seems amusing? The disciples were instructed by Jesus to go into that particular town and untie a donkey and its colt and bring it to him. If any one asked they were to reply that the Lord wanted it. And truly enough it happened exactly the same way.

Being disciples of Christ calls us to do things were are not used to or things that make us feel awkward and uncomfortable on the inside. We get concerned of what the world will think about us. How will we look in the eyes of our peers and colleagues? We hesitate to follow God’s ways and flounder trying to keep up our image. Even simple little things like praying before a meal in a restaurant or the cafeteria, refusing to claim fudged bills, restraining from laughing at crude and vulgar jokes, refraining from using office stationery for personal use seem difficult. But when we truly give our hearts to Christ, and make it our goal to please him, we must follow him all the way no matter what it may demand of us. For then Christ is glorified. If the disciples disobeyed what Jesus told them to do or passed it to others to do the needful, they would not have become partners in fulfilling the prophecy that was spoken several years ago by the prophet Zechariah – “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zec 9:9).

When we begin to follow Christ in small ways, regardless of what the world says, we are honouring Him above all. We grow more into his likeness and mature spiritually to take on bigger things God has in store for us to do to further his kingdom on earth.

Seek ways how you can honour Christ today.

Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for teaching me this valuable truth. May I seek to honour you regardless of what the world may think of me. Help me grow to take on the bigger things you have in store for me to do so that your name is glorified. Amen.”
