‘When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior’ ~ Isaiah 43:2,3
After the Israelites defeated the Midianites, they gathered a huge plunder. God instructed the spoil to be divided and distributed to the soldiers and the community folk. Moses did so. Then the officers incharge of the units of the army – the commanders of thousands and commanders came forward to Moses and said, ‘“Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing. So we have brought as an offering to the LORD the gold articles each of us acquired—armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.’ God had preserved each and every one of the soldiers. Once again God demonstrated his sovereignty and power. Amazing that all twelve thousand of them were intact and unharmed.
God preserved the lives of Daniel’s three friends – Shadrach, Meshech and Abednego. When they took a difficult stand to do what honours God, God never deserted them. They said to king Nebuchadnezzar – “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” The king’s anger burned and they were firmly tied, and thrown into the blazing furnace. But something amazing happened. King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.” He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were brought out of the fire, unharmed, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
God is a faithful God who keeps his word and above all does not change like shifting shadows. When we do his will, we need not worry or fear what will happen to us. For God watches over us and will preserve us no matter how intimidating the situation might seem. He keeps us in the hollow of his hands.
Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, I worship you for the wonderful God you are to me. Thank you so much for your protection. I know Lord, I can rest assure of your care for me. I give my life to you. Amen.
