Perfect peace

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

Today the world seems to be a place of chaos and confusion. Nations are facing many challenges; crisis is experienced in many forms – natural disasters, economic meltdown, terrorist threats, epidemic outbreaks, accidents, war etc. The daily news brings home the fact that we live in a world of turmoil. There seems to be trouble lurking around every corner. There is a feeling of despair, a foreboding of fear all around us. You can often hear people say “We are truly living in troublesome times”.

To top it all, each of us has our share of problems that do not seem to go away. A new day begins, the usual routine is on but almost every second person you meet is in the midst of some kind of confusion, stress, anxiety, going through a very uncertain and difficult time. It could be a job loss, family crisis, sickness, shaky marriage, divorce, death, trauma, relationship problems or some other factors causing stress. Hard times impact each of us deeply. We feel helpless, we feel sad and we feel overwhelmed often getting into a panic mode.  We all encounter episodes of change, difficulty and sorrow in our life. Now, none of us likes change or uncertainty especially if it results in an unpleasant experience. Deep down within ourselves, we become aware of the fact that we may be responsible to some extent for inviting such uncalled calamities in our life, we go through all kinds of turmoil and worry to such an extent that we no longer feel safe even in our own homes!!
Yet, in the face of all this, peace is possible!! Yes, even though we live in a broken, fallen world, let us remember that God is in control. God offers us a lot of things that we desire to have…….peace, joy, fulfillment, purpose, meaning, forgiveness, hope, eternal life… but we can experience all this only when we have a vibrant relationship with God. Many do not find this peace and are disappointed because they seek it within themselves or in the world, outside of God. Isaiah 26:3 talks about God’s offer of perfect peace……, inward peace, outward peace, peace with God, peace with people, peace of conscience, peace at all times, under all events and in all circumstances! Living in a relationship with the almighty God changes us. It changes our outlook on life, our response to what life throws at us, how we cope with struggles, and it finally changes our focus from things that are temporal and really unimportant to things that are eternal. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17- 21, that when we belong to Christ we become a new person. The old life is past and a new life begins in us! This is God’s gift of salvation; He brought us back to himself through Christ; for God in Christ, reconciled the world to himself, made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Each one of us needs to keep ourselves focused on God, keeping our minds fixed on His word and trusting Him at all times. In Christ Jesus, we have a holy security, a perpetual peace and serenity of mind in the assurance of God’s favor. Let us accept God’s gift of forgiveness, set right our relationship with Him and ask Him to change us from the inside out, make us new people with a new outlook on life and a new hope for a future with Him. The Lord Jesus is in control, He loves us, He is merciful and faithful. We must endeavor to trust Him in all circumstances and we will receive from him, everlasting strength and grace that will carry us to everlasting life, to experience that blessed perfect peace which is for ever!!
