“Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.”Deuteronomy 5:33
When we buy a new appliance we are given a manual along with it. This manual tells us how to use the appliance and what to do or not do when we use it. Following these instructions give us the best performance from the appliance. We are also spared the cost of unnecessary repairs.
God’s commandments are also meant to spare us the heartache, pain and consequences of sin. God laid out boundaries for us, within which our souls would be safe. He knows that crossing those boundaries is detrimental to us. When we walk in the way God has instructed us to, we are assured that we will prosper and prolong our days.
When we choose to go against His instructions, our disobedience brings upon us grief, pain, loss and punishment both here on earth and eternally too. If we knew that the cost we would have to pay for our sins, the grief, the guilt and practical consequences we will have to bear, we would never have ventured to do it in the first place. God wants us to avoid such pain altogether.
The worst consequence of our sin is that it severs our relationship with God. God is the person who loves us the most in the whole universe. Breaking His commandments takes us away from the protection He gives to those who obey Him. Repentance is the only way to mend that relationship.
Repent for your sin and make a commitment to God today that you will obey Him and walk in the way that He has commanded. Read and follow the Word of God. Keep God first in your life and be blessed in this world and eternally.
Dear Jesus, I am sorry, I have failed to keep Your commandments. I want to start afresh and learn to live a life that is in obedience to You. Teach me Your way, help me to live a godly life that is pleasing to You. Amen.
