“For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior who is Christ the Lord” ~ Luke 2:11

The shepherds heard this message from the angel and hurried to see the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. Somehow the birth of Jesus had impacted this place historically. Bethlehem was now an important place on the world map that would draw worldwide attention. For the Saviour of the world was born there. This little town was elevated to a special position. Today, Bethlehem still draws scores of visitors who flock there to see the birthplace of Jesus.

It was foretold by the prophets that the Christ would be born in Bethlehem, but probably no one would have even believed it then. And why Bethlehem? What’s good in it for such an incredible thing to happen? Bethlehem does not even qualify as one of the ten best cities in the world……well the ways of God are not the ways of man. Christ was not born in picture perfect idyllic settings. He was born in Bethlehem, a town not significant for anything apart from the fact that King David came from this place. And further more Jesus was born in a manger – a very lowly place.

It’s amazing to see how God intercepts time and space, stretches out His arm and writes across the pages of human history, the grand story of His salvation plan. And this amidst a world that is shattered, broken and fragile.

“Dear Jesus, it’s amazing that You were born in such humbling settings. You are truly meek and lowly of heart. Help me to be so too. Amen.”
