Job’s Regular Custom
‘Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.  ~ Job 1:5

Job worried about his children. They met often in each others homes and feasted. When a feasting period was over, he would wake up early in the morning and sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them. For  he thought they might have sinned against God. The Bible says – this was his regular custom.

As parents we too can worry like Job. If our children are on the wrong path, we worry when will they come out of it and be changed. If they are on the right path, we worry still, wondering how long will they be able to keep themselves upright in a corrupted generation. Either ways we worry.

The Bible encourages to cast all our cares on God for he cares for us. God our Heavenly Father knows and understands what we as parents go through. We cannot follow our kid everywhere and keep strict rules binding them to submissiveness. They will soon find a way to break free, often resorting to pretense, lies and escapism. With each passing day we will find them getting away from our grip and while we worry.

But like Job we can adopt a regular custom of seeking God in prayer.  Taking time early in the day or late at night, kneeling before God in prayer and seeking his favour and protection on our children does go a long way. Our prayers will cover them from the enemies snares. Its not the church or Sunday School teacher who has to sacrifice those precious moments in be in prayer. Its you and me. Lets not think, ‘ My husband is the praying kind, ‘ or ‘Its the mother of the children whose responsible for bringing them up, so let her pray.’ No my friend. You and I have a responsibility and a privilege to pray. Lets not put it off.

Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the gift of children. May your grace be upon them. Help me develop a regular habit of prayer, so that my life is a good example to my children. May your favour rest upon me and my family. Amen.”
