‘So David’s friend Hushai arrived at Jerusalem…’ ~ 2 Samuel 15:37

Hushai played a very important role at a crucial time in king David’s life. The whole political scenario in Jerusalem underwent a change when David fled from the city fearing Absalom’s revolt. Absalom was gathering strength more and more each day, turning the hearts of the people toward him. But there were still some who were loyal to David. And Hushai was one of them. Hushai desired to accompany David in his exile, but David thought of something better. Hushai had to go to Jerusalem and serve Absalom as his advisor and thereby frustrate Ahitophel’s advice . And that’s what Hushai did. He gave an advice that delayed Absalom from pursuing after David, giving more time for David to hide in a safe place.

God has placed you and me in this world to be agents of change. He desires that his goodness, righteousness and justice should flourish on the earth. And at times we may be called to play the role of Hushai – to do what is right and not think of our job security. Our job and position of leadership in the workplace is more than just a profession. We are not there merely to fill up our accounts or get fat pay cheques. We are there as beacons of light in a dark world; as salt of the earth to influence the people and system that surround us.

Doing so requires us to depend on the Lord daily for wisdom and guidance to handle each situation carefully. Reading God’s word helps us to know which direction or step to take. Taking to God over these issues in prayer puts things into perspective and we learn to let go and let God handle it.

May we use all the resources God has given us even our jobs to further the kingdom of God on earth.

Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, thank  you for all the resources you have blessed me with. Help me use them to further your kingdom and glorify your name. Amen.”
