The Donkeys Have Been Found

‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose’ ~ Romans 8:28

Saul and his servant had a tough time searching for the lost donkeys. For three days they traveled from the hill country of Ephraim, moved through the district of Shaalim, but the donkeys were not found. Then they searched through the territory of Benjamin, but did not find them. Going further into the district of Zuph, at the suggestion of the servant, they came to Ramah, and met the prophet Samuel. It was a strange encounter. For God had indicated to Samuel, the day before, that he would be meeting Saul the next day and is to anoint him as leader over Israel. Saul knew nothing of this. He was just looking for his father’s donkeys. And to his amazement, Samuel said, “Go up ahead of me to the high place, for today you are to eat with me, and in the morning I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart. As for the donkeys you lost three days ago, do not worry about them; they have been found.”

We might wonder, if the donkeys were found three days ago, why couldn’t Saul get know this earlier; he could have saved himself so much trouble; he needlessly traveled through many places searching for them. But the search for the lost donkeys brought him to Samuel and then he discovered the purpose God had in mind. What may seem needless and unimportant to the human eye and understanding, is the way  God chooses to act and bring the purposes he has set for us. He will take us through many phases, places and situations, before we are ready to take on what he has prepared. No experience can be deemed useless. Even the ordinary ones can be stepping stones taking us forward into God’s purpose.

If you’ve been waiting expectantly looking at the horizon of your life for a breakthrough to come by, don’t be disheartened. Just follow God’s simple guidelines and you’ll get there.

Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, help me to accept your ways of working in my life and believe that you know what’s best for me. I surrender to your plans and purposes. Amen.”
