Just a Little Boy

“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” John 6:9

A multitude of five thousand had gathered. Jesus was healing the blind, the dumb, the lame and the diseased. Among this big multitude was a little boy with a small lunch box. In it were five small barley loaves and two small fish, a meal just enough for him. As Jesus healed and taught them many things, the day went along until it was quite late. The multitude was tired and hungry. It was time to give them something to eat. But from where do you get food for so many? Such a large number…it’s a humungous task.

One of Jesus disciples spotted the little lad with his lunch box containing five small barley loaves and two small fish. But how far can they go among so many? And what can a little boy really do in such a situation? That’s the natural question. But this lad did not think that way. Instead he freely offered all of whatever he had to Jesus. When Jesus blessed the five small barley loaves and the two small fish, it satisfied the hunger of the multitude. What a significant contribution the boy had made.

Making a significant contribution in the life of others does not depend on one’s title, area of influence, position or age. It does not matter how much are we willing to give away, but how willing are we to give away.

Prayer – Lord, I come to you. Help me surrender freely and willingly my all to you. Use it for your glory. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Willingness to give away marks a life of significance.
