I Come to Thee

‘In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.’ ~ Ephesians 3:12

Three months after leaving Egypt, the Israelites arrived at the Desert of Sinai and camped at the mountain. In order to make the people put their trust in Moses, God decided to descend on the third day in a dense cloud so that the people can hear God speaking with Moses and know for sure that God is really the Yahweh God and he has chosen Moses to be their leader. But before this could happen, they had to observe certain regulations. God also clearly instructed Moses to put limits around the mountain and say, ‘Be careful that you do not go up the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death….Whether man or animal, he shall not be permitted to live.’ When God descends the whole mountain will become holy because of his holy presence. Hence the barricade.

Talking about this mountain in the new testament, in the book of Hebrew chapter twelve, we find a dramatic change. Mount Sinai was changed to Mount Zion. No longer one should fear facing the wrath of God. Instead he writes that we can freely and boldly approach mount Zion, the mount that represents the saving work of Christ, the redemption of our sins. We can go the mountain of refuge, comfort, peace, hope and joy – all made possible through Christ alone. Christ’s death made all the difference. Until then, there was no atonement for the sins of man. Even the blood of bulls and goats did not suffice. Sin had brought the division between God and man. Spiritually man remained alienated from God for a long time, until Jesus was nailed to the cross. Then the gap that kept us away from God was filled. In Christ we are made holy and acceptable to God.

We can go to God anytime in any situation. How wonderful to have a God to whom we can go anytime in any condition. He is there to listen to us, to have us home. We only need to say, “Here Lord, I come to thee”

Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for always being there, ready and waiting for me to come back to you in any condition at any time. Indeed Lord, I am so blessed to know that you are for me. Bless you Lord. Amen.”
