More Sure than a Compass

‘Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see‘~ Hebrews 11:1

A pilot goes across the trackless expanse of the sky though he doesn’t see any pathway. He is confident on the accuracy and efficiency of the compass to chart his way. The flight crew and travelers too trust the compass to point the way to the right destination.

Charting our way through life can be similar. We cannot see the future, where life will take us. But we can be sure that those who trust in the Lord do have a clear purpose designed by God who is faithful and true to make that purpose come through in our lives.

The Israelites had God’s protection as they traveled through the vast desert and mountainous regions to reach the promise land. God was watching over them from above the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. Whenever the clod moves, the whole community would set out and whenever it stopped, they halted until the nest time it moved. Sometimes the waiting time took days, weeks or even a year.

We too have to learn to rely on God’s sovereignty and believe that in all things he works things out for our good. We follow his steps and do what he tells us though we cannot see ahead. God is more sure than a compass.

Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being there to watch over me and protect me. Indeed Lord, you are my sun and shield. Help me have true faith in you and trust you completely.  Amen.”
