Covering up won’t last

‘He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy’ ~ Proverbs 28:13

The Israelites had become slaves to the Egyptians. They were used to build treasure cities for Pharaoh. But Moses had been adopted by the Pharaoh’s daughter and had grown up within the palace. One day, Moses went out to where his own people the Israelites were. He watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. Glancing this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?” The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have become known.” When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian.

Sometimes like Moses, we try to run away from the mistakes we do. Our past catches up with us, leaving us overwhelmed with guilt, shame and fear. We try to hide, because we want to save face! Unresolved issues, sins for which we have not sought forgiveness do cast their shadow.

Today’s verse for meditation encourages us not to hide our sins and mistakes but to confess and renounce them so that we can find mercy. I John 1:9 says, ‘If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.’ God is willing to forgive us. All we need to do is turn towards Him in true repentance and seek forgiveness. Doing so will reap a harvest of blessings.

‘Heavenly Father, I thank you that You are willing to forgive me. I turn to You. I confess I have sinned against You. Forgive me. In Jesus Name, Amen’.

Seeking forgiveness from God earns blessings
