A Mighty Tower

‘The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe’ ~ Proverbs 18:10

A Mighty Tower

A Mighty Tower

Joseph was a young handsome man doing well in life. He held a very influential position. He was the manager of Potiphar’s household. The entire household was committed to his care and governance. Everything was done at his command. He had a say over all matters except concerning the food that Potiphar ate.

Having had to be away from home as a little boy, Joseph had come a long way. He had faced many difficult circumstances and challenges since childhood. But now as a young man he faced a new and serious challenge. Potiphar’s wife invited him to enter into a live in relationship with her. Day after day she would try to coerce him, and day after day, Joseph would refuse. He would avoid even just being with her.

Like Joseph, we all face temptations in everyday life. But like Joseph we can choose how to respond to them in the right way. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, ‘No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.’ It’s amazing that God has already provided a way out of it. All we need to do is ask His help to identify that way and follow it. We can just say a small prayer asking for God’s guidance out of the temptation.

We choose whether or not to participate in the temptation. No matter who tries to force us or allure us, ultimately it is our decision that matters.

Prayer

“Dear Jesus, please forgive me for the times I have yielded to temptations and done things that are wrong. I thank you for the power of Your Name that helps me face temptations the right way. May I listen and obey Your voice. Amen”

When temptation draws near, just say a prayer
