God with us
“…..the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.” ~
1 Corinthians 10:4
Traveling through the desert was not easy. The Israelites had to leave the kind of life they were used to in Egypt and make their way through the desert sands adjusting to a new mode of living. This called for a great deal of sacrifice and fortitude on their part.
God was taking them through a different school of learning. They had to do without all the nice melons, leeks, garlic, cucumbers of Egypt. They had to learn to be content with whatever God provided in the desert, trusting God’s provision and depending on Him for help. But most of all, they had to know the all sufficiency of God’s presence; the abiding presence of God accompanying them step by step, moment by moment, by day and by night.
At times God takes us through this same school of learning. God wants us to be content with whatever He provides; to deem it worthwhile and valuable believing that God knows what to give us and what not to give us; learning to take our eyes off the things of this world and instead look at the greatest blessing we have – God’s abiding presence. God says in Matthew 28:20, ‘Behold I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.’ Hebrews 13:5 says, ‘Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ All we need is just the presence of God in our lives and that is sufficient. For God is ‘Emmanuel’ – He is with us accompanying us all through the way.
“Dear Jesus, the greatest blessing I can ever have is Your presence in my life. Thank you Lord. Help me to cherish it above all other things and love it always. Amen.”
