To Believe in Nonsense

To Believe in Nonsense

“But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.” Luke 24:11

The women brought a message for them. They were numb with fright for they had seen something they could never dream about or understand. Having seen and heard angels speak to them, they couldn’t hold this news to themselves any more. They rushed to tell the apostles what they saw and heard. But no one believed them. They didn’t believe them because their words seemed like nonsense.

It is human tendency to believe and accept only those things we have experienced or learnt personally and leave out the rest as ‘not possible’ or ‘unbelievable’. We use our finite minds to decide things for us. We tend to forget that we serve an infinite God for Whom ‘all things are possible.’

We unconsciously think that God would think the way we do but that is far from the truth. God says in His Word that His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)

The prophets of the Old Testament times were made to stand before kings and peoples and speak things that were way beyond their time… they too sounded like they spoke nonsense but today we see the sense in all that they spoke. Their names are written on the sands of time in golden letters because they obeyed God and did as He bid them.

We need to learn to listen to God’s voice without letting what we know or don’t know come in the way so we can truly honor Him with our obedience. It is God’s choice to speak sense or nonsense – whatever He does is right because He chooses it that way. He has a reason and a purpose for everything under heaven. Being God it is His prerogative to say and for us who are His subjects, servants and children, it is our duty to obey. May we learn to obey Him whether we understand or don’t understand what He is doing.

Prayer:

“Dear Jesus, help me to obey You no matter what it is You ask of me. Help me to let go of the need to understand everything and accept with faith what you require of me, Amen.”
