When life seems unfair

When life seems unfair

“Though the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” ~ Habakkuk 3:17-18

She would never forget that day when terror struck unawares. It seemed as if her whole world was toppled upside down. The Syrian army had attacked her village in Israel. Crops were destroyed, houses were broken down, people fled for safety of their lives. But this little girl, had no chance of escape. The soldiers took notice of her and took her captive.

Can you imagine how life must have been for this little girl who should have been enjoying her childhood – playing with friends, enjoying the comfort of a home, the love from her family…but she was taken captive to Syria and made to be a servant to the house of captain of the army, the very person who commanded the army to invade her country. Instead of becoming bitter and angry about how things had turned out, this little girl did something wonderful that brought transformation in her master’s life. Her master was suffering from leprosy. And she knew the right place to get help. Having genuine concern for her master to get healed, she shared the information she had that could help him – that he must meet Elisha, a prophet in Israel. The captain obeyed and was healed.

At times we wonder ‘Is life fair? Does God understand? How could God allow such a thing to happen to me?’ Many questions surge through our hearts and it seems as though heaven is silent. When things happen that are out of our control do we become bitter and cynical? Do we lose faith in God? Do we doubt God’s love? This little servant girl had complete trust that God was in control of her life. She did not judge God’s goodness based on her circumstances. She just believed that God would turn things out for good.

Prayer

“Dear Jesus, I surrender my life to you. Please take complete control over my life. Help me trust You at all times.  Use me as a blessing in other people’s lives. Amen”

God is good all the time
