‘May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge’ ~ Ruth 2:12
Ruth was a widow from the country of Moab. She chose to stay with Naomi, her widowed mother-in-law in order to help her. She made it her aim to serve Naomi and take care of her. Ruth could have started life afresh and focused on her dreams – having her own family rather than staying with an elderly widow. But she put Naomi’s concerns first to hers. She trusted God to take care of her concerns while she took care of Naomi. What did she get in return for all this?
God blessed Ruth in due time. She became the wife of Boaz, a wealthy landowner. She had a family of her own and was the great grandmother of David. Moreover, she was included into the lineage of Jesus. What a great reward!
At times we wonder if it helps to go the extra mile; whether our efforts to help others go wasted? Is it a good thing to contribute to the wellbeing of others? Does it pay to be meek and humble? Does it pay to put others concerns first? Yes it does. God sees what we do and will bless us…in due time as He did for Ruth.
Heavenly Father, I pray to you. May I always be eager and willing to help the needy. May I contribute to the wellbeing of others. May I never tire of doing good.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth ~ Mathew 5:5
