Light is sown

Light is sown

“Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart” ~ Psalm 97:11

Being upright in heart and righteous is not easy. You make yourself susceptible to the sneers, snubs, anger, rough talk, hard looks and hostility of those around who think otherwise. You become a threat and a target of hate. And sometimes it may even cost much – losing a promotion, being transferred to a distant location, excessive workload, retrenchment, not being recognized or harassed in many other ways.

Doing what is right may not always yield benefits or produce results immediately. But it will yield a harvest of good….. a week, a month or even a year later. It’s like sowing a seed. We sow it, water it, but cannot make it grow. We have to wait until it grows, until God makes it grow. In due time God will recompense. Psalm 37:5-6 says, ‘Commit your way unto the Lord, and he shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and thy judgment of your cause as the noonday sun’. Yes, God will vindicate your righteousness, because He is righteous and it pleases Him when you act righteously.

When we do what is right, we sow light; light that will bear fruit in time to come; light that will lighten up the pathway in the future. And God will sometimes surprise us with blossoms of light and gladness for us to reap and enjoy.

When you do what is right, it is not forgotten. It will catch up with you – someday.

“Dear Jesus, the Righteousness One, I ask your help to make me do the things that please You. Help me not to compromise or give in to the standards of this world. May I live by Your standard. Amen.”
