I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1Timothy 2:1-2
Life isn’t that easy, and when we have our authority not following the right way it becomes all the more difficult. Yes, this is the reason; Paul in his letter to Timothy gave instructions on Christian living and worship. He is asking Timothy to pray for the authorities in order to live in peace.
We all enjoy and love a peaceful life. We think it is not our responsibility to pray for those in authority, but we fail to realize that ultimately it is we who have to face the consequences. Prayer has great power and we need to pray for God’s wisdom to be granted to our leaders.
In Ezekiel 22:30. God says, “I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none”. Yes, God’s eyes are looking down on men to see if there were any who would want to stand in the gap and pray for their country, their leaders.
Let us decide today that we would take out time to pray for our country, our respected leaders and our immediate authorities at school, work and home.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to take out time and pray for my leaders and be willing to stand in the gap for the welfare of my country.
