“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.” Mark 2:21
She held on to her tattered garment as though she was holding on to life. They tried very hard to coax her into parting with it. She wouldn’t let go of it. Sitting there on that street corner, this rag had become a part of her life, a part of her very self. Her memory was laden with things from the past about how she got that garment, all the joys and sorrows she experienced that this piece of cloth was mute witness to… She thought of it almost as a friend and here they were pulling it out of her hands. She felt her whole world was falling apart.
While she was lost in her trauma, she didn’t know that the volunteers were actually trying to get her to leave that garment so that she could be given a new one. They had arranged for her to have a bath and have a new set of clothes. They had even got a kit ready so that she could have a bath at a nearby center whenever she needed one. Oblivious to the new life waiting for her, she held on desperately refusing to let go – her old life.
Are you holding on to something that you actually need to let go? Unless you do, you will not see the blessings that the Lord wants to give you. If the Lord asks you to leave or let go of something, do not think that He will leave you desolate and needy. Remember He has promised to never leave you or forsake you. He will definitely provide all that you need… if you let Him have His way, He will do better than the best you can dream of.
“Dear Jesus, help me to see beyond the present, give me the grace to accept and obey what you want me to do. Thank you for the assurance that You are always with me, Amen.”
