Complete and unhindered

“….she broke the box…” ~ Mark 14:3

One of the most difficult things for the human soul to do is to part with something. It becomes more difficult if it precious and entirely yours. The heart engages in a tussle, ‘should I or should I not’. When Jesus was at the house of Simon the leper, there came a woman having an alabaster box of a very precious ointment of spikenard and she broke the box and poured it on His head. She did not just give it and disappear from the scene. She stood there, broke the box and anointed Jesus’ head. The breaking of the box was the evidence her true giving. For once broken she would not be able to put the pieces together again. It was given away – complete and full.

True and pure devotion to God is evidenced by our giving unto Him of that which is precious, those things over which we have our say. We choose what to do with what is at our disposal, giving it to God as an offering. ‘She has done what she could’, said Jesus. Deep within us is the capacity to surrender, but the question is – are we willing? Christ gave His very life for us. He left the glory of the heavens and made Himself like unto us, suffered shame and endured scorn so that we might be redeemed.

Has God been asking you to surrender something to Him? If so trust Him. Let Him have it complete and unhindered.

“Dear Jesus, I worship You for You gave Yourself up on the cross for me. I surrender my life to you. Have Your way in me. Amen.”
