“I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.” Psalm 52:9
When things go wrong for us, we tend to mull over negative things all the time. Like a string of thoughts, one memory after another follows with times when we were let down. No one can say that nothing bad ever happened to them in their lives. But when we go through a bad patch in our life we see only the negative until we get out of that phase.
David says that he will remember the good things and praise God for what He had done. He tells himself that he has hope in God’s name. He remembers that God is good and that he can trust in Him.
Not only does he think about the good of the Lord, he goes one step further and talks about the goodness of the Lord. When we speak we reinforce the beliefs we have in our hearts. We express our confidence in them. Speaking about the Lord shows our confidence in Him. David is not just speaking about the Lord, he is praising the Lord. He chooses to speak before His saints, the people who love God by living honorable lives for His glory.
What do we do when we are feeling down and weary in our own lives? We take the example of David and remember the good things that the Lord had done for us. We hope in His name and look up to Him while waiting for the good things He will do to change our lives for the better.
“Dear Jesus, I am blessed because I can hope in You at all times. Thank You for being with me at all times. Help me to keep my eyes on You, Amen.”
