“Eli answered, ‘Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.” She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.’ Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.” ~ 1 Samuel 1: 17,18
Hannah was tormented by her childlessness. She had to suffer a lot of pain on account of Penninah, Elkanah’s other wife who had children. Penninah would keep provoking and irritating her constantly on account of her not having children of her own.
Hannah suffered this for a long time and having had enough she went into the temple and cried out before the Lord. Eli the priest noticed her and reprimanded her. When he learnt that she was in pain he blessed her saying ‘May the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.’
When Eli assured Hannah of God’s blessing she returned home with peace. She was sure that God would step into her situation and give her the blessing. She didn’t have a tear after that, she believed that the word that was given to her and rested on it.
Do we rest on God after we have prayed and laid our petitions before Him? How often have we cried or complained about our circumstances even after it was prayed about. It means that we haven’t accepted the peace that comes from knowing that God is taking care of our problem for us. We need to learn from Hannah how to lay our problems at His throne of grace and return with the joy knowing that our great God is working on it.
“Dear Jesus, I am sorry for keeping on looking at my problems. Help me to lay my problems in Your hands and rest peacefully knowing that You will work out the best for me, Amen.”
