“Mercy triumphs over judgment” ~ James 2:13
It’s amazing and fascinating to watch the sea, especially the way the waves go back and forth against the sand. And if you write an inscription with your finger on the sand, within the next few moments it’s all completely washed away into the sea. The waves wipe them off. Each surge of the wave renews the sand.
This interplay of the waves reminds me of God’s mercy. There are moments in life when we fail to adhere to good values and principles, we make mistakes and commit sins, some small, some big and some that yield devastating consequences. We stumble, we fall. Almost crippled with guilt and shame we feel depressed, losing out on the joy of living. We feel that it’s so bad we cannot make up for it. That’s true in a way. We cannot undo what we’ve done.
But the good news is that though we make mistakes and commit sins, God does not treat us as our sins deserve. The Bible tells that God loves us with an everlasting love, a love that is steadfast, that can be counted upon. God does not keep a record of our wrongs. He is always willing and ready to forgive us and show mercy. God shows his love by extending mercy on us. He gives us chances to start afresh again.
All we need to do is confess our sins, acknowledge our mistakes and receive God’s love. The Bible says, ‘Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.’(Romans 8:1). No matter whether the sin is big or small, we all stand in need of God’s mercy. If we come to God and accept the forgiveness He offers us through Jesus, we are forgiven and things renewed. We can start afresh.
“Dear Jesus, I thank you for your mercies that renew my life. Please forgive me for my sins. Thank you for the chance to start afresh again. May I follow You and live to please You. Amen.”
