“I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints- but let them not return to folly.” Psalm 85:8
A father buys a gift for his son and returns home only to find that his son has broken the most precious thing he had. At first he angrily corrects his son and punishes him for the misdeed. After a while he calls him and tells him not repeat the same mistake again… and gives him the gift he had brought.
God does get angry and upset with us when we do wrong. He corrects us in good measure… and when we learnt our lesson, He softens His stand. He doesn’t like to condemn anyone. Even though we are sinners, He loves us and cares for us. He promises peace to us, His people.
Just as a parent who tells the child ‘Don’t go near the fire’, He asks us to keep away from the folly of sin. It hurts Him more when we are hurt and He wants that we should be safe and away from harm.
We say that we love ourselves and yet do things that are self-destructive. He loves us so much He cannot bear to see us destroy ourselves and He seeks our obedience so He can help us stay away from harm and evil.
“Dear Jesus, forgive me for the times I hurt You through sin. Help me Lord to live a sinless life. Amen.”
