‘He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by” ~ Genesis 18:3
Abraham said, “He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by. Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.” We find Abraham imploring the three visitors who came, while he sat at the entrance of his tent at the heat of the day. Did he perceive that God would confirm he promise of a child? Was he expecting God to speak words of reassurance and encourage him to keep the faith? Or did doubt drive hm to the point of desperation that he waited at the tent entrance expectantly looking for a breakthrough over the horizon of his life? We don’t know. What we know is that Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. He did walk the path of his faith being tested. He saw beyond the promise to the one who gave it – that he who promised is faithful and able.
We can find ourselves in the place of Abraham when faced with perplexing questions of life, for which we know no answer. We worry, “Will I be left behind?” Like Esau we cry out, “Father have you reserved any blessing for me?” For deep down in our hearts we know that we can never make it through life without the blessings of God. Our ego and pride, the bent to disobedience and sin has caused the loss of precious blessings. But we can take heart. For our God is a wonderful gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love. When we return to him in sincere faith and honest love, he is there for us.
Prayer – “Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being there for me. Thank you for all the blessings you pour out into my life and all the loving thoughts you have for me. Help me grow in faith and see you beyond the impossibilities of my life. Amen.”
