“Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.’ ~ Galatians 5:1
People who are slaves and have to suffer intolerable pain live with the hope that someone will set them free. They dream and hope that a day will come when they won’t have to be tied down in submission to the oppressors. Lashed and beaten with many stripes, starved and overworked they suffer from day to day.
One day the Savior comes and frees them from the prison of slavery. Released to a new life, the people rejoice. They are in a hurry to leave the prison. They have so many memories of despair and pain that they don’t want to even bear to look back once again. As their steps speed towards the opened gate, they are frantic to leave the life of torment far behind.
Jesus fought a battle with the dark forces to free us from slavery to sin. Every sin is a kind of slavery that holds us in its clutches, tormenting us and prodding us with guilt. It kills our conscience and numbs our sense of what is right and wrong leading us to sure destruction. Satan would be overjoyed to see us destroyed for he is jealous of the love that God has for us.
Once freed from the clutches of Satan, the slave master and washed in the blood of Christ, we are free to live a new life once again.
Prayer:
“Dear Jesus, I need your help to keep from falling due to temptations that can ruin my life. Please protect me from all evil and teach me the way to live, Amen.”
